[Germany] 13 PhD Positions in Statistics at University of Göttingen

The Centre for Statistics at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen is currently inviting applications for

13 PhD Positions in Statistics and their Fields of Application within the Research Training Group (RTG 1644) on `Scaling Problems in Statistics` funded by the German Science Foundation (DFG).

The highly interdisciplinary orientated Research Training Group aims at the solution of current questions in the areas of agricultural economics, genetics, ecology, econometrics and remote sensing by means of statistical methods, and at the development of the latter. It distinguishes itself through a structured graduation programme, joint supervision, and a study program consisting of methodologically oriented lectures and interdisciplinary research seminars.

The Research Training Group involves the Institutes for Mathematical Stochastics (Schlather, Sturm), Agricultural Economics and Rural Development (Brümmer, v.Cramon-Taubadel), Agroecology (Scherber, Tscharntke), Animal Breeding and Genetics (Simianer), Ecosystem Modelling (Meyer, Wiegand), Forest Inventory and Remote Sensing (Kleinn), Genetic Epidemiology (Bickeböller), Statistics and Econometrics (Sperlich), and the Courant Research Centre on Poverty, Equity and Growth in Developing Countries (Krivobokova).

Successful applicants hold a master degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economy, Ecological Sciences, Genetics, Animal Breeding, Forestry, or a related field with a high interest in statistical methodologies and interdisciplinary work.

The positions will start October 1, 2010, and are awarded for up to three years. The RTG will take measures to support the research carrier of excellent candidates up to 12 months after their 3-year doctoral period. The salary is in accordance with the German state regulated public service salary scale (75 % E 13 TV-L, about 1500 EUR net).
